Today we are learning about the two-way prepositions. Let’s look at the two examples from the title of the lesson: im Kino (in the cinema) and ins Kino (to the cinema). The first expression is indicating the position of the object or its movement within one place and the second one is describing the movement from one place (for example: home) to another (the cinema).

The two-way prepositions can take either the accusative or the dative case. They take the accusative when they describe movement from one place to another. They take the dative when there is either no movement, or when the movement remains within one place:
